RI/FS Activities:

  • April 2008: Performed Additional Phase IC Sampling
  • April 2008: Additional Phase IC Sampling Letter
  • July 2007: Performed Phase IC Sampling Event and Ecological Study
  • May 2007: Revised Draft Phase IC with Response to Comments (RTC)
  • October 2006: Submitted Phase 1C Work Plan for Agency review.
  • August 2006: Completed validation of the Phase 1B groundwater results
  • June 2006: Treated purge water generated during RI field activities was removed from the site and disposed.
  • June 2006: EPA issued Notice to Proceed for an EE/CA for the site buildings and contents
  • May 2006: Phase 1B interim groundwater sampling round completed.
  • November 2005: Phase 1A and 1B RI activities completed.
  • November 2005: Second RI groundwater sampling round completed.
  • September 2005: Phase 1B Work Plan completed
  • May 2005: AOI-3 (former landfill) investigation completed.
  • May 2005: First comprehensive groundwater sampling event completed.

EE/CA Activities:

Agency Activities:

  • January 2008:EPA began a "Time Critical Removal Action" at the Site to remove containers of hazardous substances within the facility that pose a risk of fire or explosion.

  • July & August of 2007: EPA performed an inventory of combustibles, flammables, and incompatible materials located within the Site buildings to determine if an imminent or substantial endangerment to public health, welfare, or the environment.

  • June 2007:Small Fire occurred in on of the Site buildings.

  • May 2007:The Massachusetts Department of Public Health Radiation Control Program (MADPH-RCP) and Starmet entered into a Consent Decree (CD) under which Starmet has agreed to permanently vacate the site by October 31, 2007.

  • Spring 2006: MADEP conducted a removal action with proceeds obtained by the State through a settlement with the U.S. Army, which consisted of the removal of more than 3,800 drums and containers containing depleted uranium from within the facility.
